"Nurturing & Developing Unique Services"

MyHealth Centre is an accredited diagnostic health facility with more than 40 locations in Ontario. Specializing in cardiology, imaging, women’s health, telehealth, and sleep diagnostic services, more than 15,000 Ontario healthcare providers refer their patients to MyHealth for these OHIP-covered services. They are also the first and only independent health facilities in Ontario that are Accredited with Commendation. This unique achievement recognizes their ongoing effort to provide shorter wait times for patients, faster report turnaround for referring healthcare providers, and the highest standard of infection prevention, cleanliness, and safety in their facilities.

We met with Dina Sergi, Vice President of Operations at MyHealth, who shares her insight on how they’re able to deliver a higher standard of patient care during the most challenging period of her career. Many would have a difficult time leading a healthcare team through moments of fear, scrutiny, and unpredictability, but she excelled. As stated by a colleague, “I will never forget the pandemic. I too had to lead, but being her direct report, I needed her support, which was given to me in abundance”.

Throughout the pandemic, Dina was resilient and compassionate towards the needs of her staff and patients. She was driven and focused on leading MyHealth through required staff changes and then ramping up to full operations with the increasing demand in healthcare. Much of her success was due to her willingness to communicate and address the needs and concerns of her team. She continues to mentor and council her team and is focussed on the development of others.

According to Dina, the pandemic has created new challenges, but for MyHealth it has also inspired new advances in how they provide diagnostic services and patient care. Last year, they introduced telehealth services for urgent care, prescriptions, and cardiology consultations, so all Ontario patients can access these OHIP-covered services from the comfort and safety of their homes. Telehealth provides improved service to remote areas and relieves overrun hospitals with limited healthcare professionals and unsustainable wait times.

Timeliness is critical in a modern health system. When a patient has a health condition that is not diagnosed and treated on time, it worsens. Yet, here in Ontario, patients are waiting for an average of 17 weeks from when they are referred to a diagnostic specialist to when they receive treatment. That is why MyHealth strives to provide same-week appointments for their diagnostic services. According to Dina, “This enables us to evaluate our patients’ health conditions before they become a crisis.”

Last year, MyHealth Centre provided more than two million OHIP-covered healthcare services to patients. “We ask them to complete a quick survey following their visit and have subsequently earned a 4.8 out of 5-star Google rating from nearly 15,000 patient reviews,” says Dina. Furthermore, MyHealth has earned the Consumer Choice Award for best diagnostic imaging clinics in the GTA (2019-2020-2021-2022); has been selected by the Globe and Mail as one of Canada’s Top Growing Companies (2019-2020); Deloitte has named them one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies (2018-2019-2020-2021-2022), and has been certified as a Great Place to Work (2017-2018-2019-2020-2021).

“Our goal is to ensure MyHealth Centre is first to mind when referring healthcare providers and their patients need diagnostic services,” adds Dina. “We want top referrers to continue referring to us, and those who periodically refer their patients to increase their frequency and expand the range of services they refer to us.”

MyHealth Centre plans for a seamless integration of a “brick-and-click” healthcare model, offering a breadth of diagnostic services and a one-stop-shop for referring healthcare providers and patients. They recognize not all healthcare services can be done remotely. Still, as patients demand more transparency and convenience than ever before, MyHealth Centre will remain at the forefront of this inevitable growth opportunity. “I will say that I found happiness in working at MyHealth Centre, which contributes to my success. Having a great team and surrounding myself with colleagues and teammates that have the same desires to ensure our success in an industry dedicated to patient care is humbling. I’m a firm believer that a good leader has a great team beside him/her,” she says. WL
