Making A Difference in The Future Health Care Model

Helen Stewart, Chief Growth & Innovation Officer, SCP Health (SCP), is a strategic problem solver who uses a client-centric approach. Her understanding and foresight - of the customers' experience in the current environment and what is coming in the marketplace - have allowed SCP to align its strategy and efforts where the customer needs them to go and take the lead in their sector. Helen is skilled at seeing what is needed in the health care market and how SCP Health can align its capabilities to help hospitals and health systems solve their most significant issues. She does so by activating the organization around solutions that meet those needs.

One of her core beliefs is that collaboration is key when working across the organization to ensure everyone is shifting in the same direction needed to achieve success. This approach helps demonstrate to the entire organization that they are part of the same mission and critical to the success they are experiencing.

Helen’s passion for making a difference and supporting her team as they lead new initiatives, make changes, and step up to take on greater responsibility gives those individuals a chance to lead with guidance. She builds confidence, offers frameworks to help them lead effectively, and provides support while letting them experiment and learn using their own style.

“I started as a salesperson, and it was always very natural for me to work with my customers to understand what they needed so I could figure out how to best solve the challenges they were dealing with – so, I experienced success quickly in sales,” says Helen. “However, my lack of operational experience and impatience, meant it took much longer for me to really understand how organizations make change and the interdependencies often involved in any organization when you are trying to modify how teams support clients.” After spending several years in different corporate headquarters – Helen learned how organizations work, how teams connect, and the importance of understanding why things are done and how to prevent one change in the system from breaking other parts.

“My advice from my journey would be the more you can understand why people and processes work the way they do, the more effectively you can make change and support teams as a leader,” she adds.

With a growth mindset, Helen has been taking SCP to new heights. As a clinical company, SCP touches thousands of patients daily, providing exceptional clinical care while finding ways to improve the quality of health care, the patient’s experience, and the financial challenges facing the health care system. “I lead a team working every day to find ways to build a hybrid care solution that patients are demanding, and the health care system needs , to reduce costs while achieving better health outcomes,” explains Helen. “We research, partner, and have multiple pilots to find successful paths forward to make a difference in the future health care model.”

In 2023, SCP Health is realizing double-digit growth and is growing faster than any other organization in its segment. The company’s innovative approach to working side by side with their clients in a highly transparent way, dedication to innovating how hospital-based care is provided, combined with a rigorous approach to managing how care is delivered today, is allowing them to solve significant issues for many health systems across the country – helping tackle labor shortages, quality challenges, and financial issues.

“I am always trying to find new ways to communicate better. I believe the better we can listen to our clients and our teams, to understand each other’s perspectives – the better we can work together to truly solve big problems,” explains Helen. “I believe, it will take a collaborative approach to tackle the challenges facing health care – and ideas get lost as people talk past each other – so I am always working on listening, clarifying what I hear, and trying to find ways to share complex ideas simply.”

For the days to come, SCP Health is working to help improve health care – by innovating how clinicians deliver care in the emergency room and hospitals – finding ways to improve the patient’s experience and do so at lower costs – and connecting in-person care to virtual care – creating a true hybrid care experience for patients, meeting the patient wherever they are in their health care journey.
