Over Kyla Heap’s tenure in her role, she has transformed a team that was unhappy and disgruntled into one that won “team of the year” in their annual awards ceremony. Her professionalism, leadership, and dedication to them has inspired the team to go above and beyond. Her team knows she has their back.

Kyla always tells women business owners she comes across that they need to realize and appreciate what their worth is. “I was recently out on maternity leave and went through a period where I felt like I might not be needed while out. Rather than thinking negatively about this, I realized that I needed to shift my mindset and praise myself for having a team in place that I could trust to handle things in my absence,” says Kyla. “My best advice, no matter your gender, is to surround yourself with people who are smarter than you and who you can constantly learnfrom.”

According to the pioneering leader, to be an inspiring leader one must create an environment of trust and empowerment. A leader should listen and make people feel appreciated. “Do this through always living your values and behaving ethically,” she adds. “And always be caring and have compassion. Kyla has taken the time to get to know her team members, so she is able to help them embrace new roles that fit their personalities and strengths. She gives them wings to fly.”

Success for Kyla is a constant journey, where she is still striving! She has been fortunate to work with some wonderful mentors, who have had confidence in her that she might not have given to herself. With that, they provided Kyla with opportunities. “With every new opportunity presented I have gained skills and confidence to know that these were not presented for no reason,” she explains.

“Surround yourself with people who are willing to give you opportunities. If you work within an environment that you enjoy and with people who match your values, you can surprise yourself what you can learn and accomplish.” She advices everyone, both male and female, that they should develop themselves based on their strengths. “I believe that every woman should know herself first, her passions, her strengths, her working styles and traits. Be honest with yourself. That way you can be fully aware of your areas for achievement and map a plan to get you there. If you are aware of your gaps, you can always be striving to better yourself in those areas.” Armed with this unique ideology, Kyla is taking the company to new heights.
