Switching Hats: From corporate exec to entrepreneur

A decade after joining the corporate sector, Lorena felt compelled to follow her calling and switch hats from corporate executive to business founder, leaping into entrepreneurship. Attempts to quieten that ambition had previously failed, as had her attempts to work full-time while launching side businesses - and this was well before “side-hustle” culture was even a trend. Around 2018, she took the leap, leaving the corporate sector entirely and blindly crossing the abyss into self-employment.

“Entrepreneurship was defined to me as a journey – but I have to disagree wholeheartedly. It has much rather been a rollercoaster. Not one of my jobs, nor the stresses that came with each, not even when I mis-transferred millions of euros to the wrong Swiss investor, none of those work pressures compared to the start-up experience, not for me at least, nonetheless a ride I do not regret taking.”

Over the years, Lorena has sharpened her business development skills and helped onboard high-net-worth individuals, investors, and multi-national corporations. These clients sought to mitigate their fiscal exposure, protect their assets, and enhance their global mobility through international tax, residence, and citizenship by investment (RCBI) solutions. But what led her to launch a firm of her own was the fact that all the in-house business development strategies being implemented were dated, ineffective, time-consuming, and gruelling at best. This motivated her desire to innovate.

CP offers partner-matching services to connect its clients with viable introducers, agents, associates, and partners. It also promotes its clients through tailored email campaigns that are distributed to potential B2B partners as well as to CP’s existing database of advisers to ultra/high-net-worth individuals which has now grown to over 35,000 thanks to its in-house industry publication “The Golden Wealth Wire”.

Since 2021, CP has partnered with Mercury Global Reports, and successfully promoted several Country specific Investment Reports that have been published in The Washington Times, in a bid to promote CP’s clients to the US market. But what has become most popular is CP’s industry-specific content creation services, government agencies, international tax, and investment migration industry leaders have engaged CP for technical content that has been delivered as keynote speeches, in white papers, and across all forms of industry media.

An international professional trajectory

Lorena was born in Bogota, Colombia, her family travelled around the world extensively due to the nature of her father's work. Within her first few months, she had already moved to Ethiopia, then Cyprus, Australia, and Scotland to pursue her academic qualifications. An avid learner, Lorena completed her Bachelor's in Management in Australia, her Master's in International Relations in Scotland, and her Postgraduate Law degree specializing in Corporate Law in London.

Professionally she gained extensive experience in an array of interconnected sectors, in the corporate management fields, she oversaw multi-million-dollar transactions in Germany and the UK, she also worked in the funds industry in Cyprus at the outset of her career in international tax structuring, and then was assigned a management role, heading the expansion of an international network of offices in the insurance sector in London.

This international trajectory laid the groundwork for her to be able to thoroughly understand the sectors she engaged with, gauge her clients’ needs, and apply that know-how when strategizing the solutions her company should offer its international clientele of investment migration, corporate, funds, and law firms. It laid the ideal foundations on which Lorena got to lead the growth of CP – a marketing and business development firm that is dedicated to the corporate, tax, and investment migration sectors, a business led by an industry professional for the industry.
